Wedding Registry Items You Can't Live Without

By Randolph Quan

Of course knowing that you're spending the rest of your life with the one you love is the best part of getting married. Going on your honeymoon with your aforementioned love probably ranks as the number 2 best part of getting married. So what's number three?

The registry!

For men, it just means another boring day of shopping. But for women, it means another exciting day of shopping and a great day of opening gifts post-wedding.

But let's imagine for a second that you could only register for one item for each room of your house. What would you choose? Where would you start? This would take a lot of research, a lot of comparing items. Here's our list of dream registry items:

Room # 1: The kitchen

What you want: A KitchenAid mixer (or comparable high-quality stand mixer) Why? A KitchenAid mixer is a little bit of an investment, often running a couple hundred to a few hundred pounds. But the quality is superb - just ask, and you'll be regalled with tales from people whose mixers have lasted quarter of a century or more - and the convenience of a stand mixer is unbeatable. Some shy away from them because they think they don't bake enough to justify it, but it's not just for desserts. A KitchenAid can churn out mashed potatoes or meatloaf, and with any of the handy attachments - which you should also register for - you can grind meat, knead bread, make ice cream, slice veggies or whip up fresh pasta.

Room # 2: The dining room

What you want: A full casual china set Why? Traditionally, you register for formal china for your wedding, and that's just dandy. But since we can only choose one thing, casual china will definitely be more helpful in the long run because you'll get more use out of it.

Room # 3: The living room

What you want: A vacuum cleaner Why? Oh-so-practical, a good vacuum cleaner is actually pretty pricey, but even more invaluable. Ask for a good model on your wedding registry, and you'll have beautiful carpets for years to come.

Room # 4: The bedroom

What you want: High thread-count sheets Why? Snuggle up in them, and you'll know why we put this on the list. The higher thread count a sheet set has, the softer it is. It will make your nights as a newlywed more luxurious than you ever imagined.

Room # 5: The bathroom

What you want: A shower radio Why? One of the best ways to make your bathroom your haven is to have some tunes at the ready. Shower radios are no longer plain AM-FM tuners in the shape of a fish, but rather can play CDs, MP3s, as well as the radio. Imagine, you and your new spouse, lathered up in a bubble bath with a glass of wine and some smooth jazz on your new shower radio.

Room # 6: The office

What you want: A photo printer Why? You can print photos from your honeymoon for even cheaper than it costs to send them out. Most models can be connected straight to your camera, and print out high-quality, glossy photos at your whim.

Room # 7: The backyard

What you want: A barbecue grill Why? Your new hubby will be thrillin' while he's grillin.' If you have a budding grill-master at your side, he'll certainly appreciate a brand-new barbecue grill for the backyard. - 30299
