What to Do When You're Having Trouble Dealing With Break Up Pain

By Drew Cane

After going through a break up, you will most likely be feeling the effects of a broken heart. Before you begin to seek out advice on how to get your ex back, it would be wise to first see what you can do about healing your poor little heart.

Movies and popular songs have trivialized a broken heart, but the fact of the matter is that a broken heart can be more painful and feel more life threatening than open heart surgery. No, a broken heart may not be able to kill you, but the symptoms can certainly make you feel like you want to curl up and die.

When suffering from a broken heart, it is not uncommon to experience drastic urges such as the craving to call your ex every waking minute of the day or to binge eat to take your mind off of the sadness you feel. These feelings are perfectly normal and something that just about every serious relationship goes through at its end, and will begin to subside as time goes on.

Doing things like looking at pictures of your ex girlfriend or ex boyfriend will not help. The natural thing to do is to think about your ex and remember the happy times when you were with them, but the key to healing a broken heart is to keep moving and making new memories.

Don't lose sight of yourself, either. Remember that you were once a complete, whole, and happy person, before you even knew that your ex existed. I know that this is easier said than done. Believe me, I've felt what you're feeling right now. Still, you want to at least make sure that you are making an effort to stay positive.

People get over their break up pain and their broken hearts in all sorts of different ways. Not everyone stays broken up forever, either; some people go for the "rebound relationship" and make up and break up over and over again, while others live happily ever after with or without their ex. No matter what happens, though, happiness will find a way to shine through the darkness and heal your broken heart. - 30299
