How To Get Prepare For A Wedding Speech

By Saorise Goldflatt

The anticipation of a wedding toast can cause many sleepless nights close to the wedding. It does not matter if you are speaking in the capacity of Bride, Groom, Best Man, Father of the Bride or Maid of Honor, each will cause some stress. So how do you prepare for your wedding toast?

Below outlines some simple tips for your wedding toast:

Speech Format:

It is easier if you have some structure to the toast. Start with an introduction of yourself and get the thank you's out of the way. The launch into the body of your toast be it a story about the bride or groom or otherwise. Finally, end with a toast and a well wishing for the happy couple.

During the lead up to the wedding:

Once you have your draft wedding toast prepared, you will need to set aside some time to practice it. All speeches have been practiced, the easier it looks, the more it has been practiced. Take ten minutes a day to stand in front of the mirror and read aloud to see if it makes sense and flows well. It is also a good opportunity to check if you have omitted anyone you should have thanked!

Slow down:

Of course it can be nerve wracking to stand up in front of a number of people even if you know them very well. Your body will react by trying to end the speech before you even start. The wedding audience will be very much on your side so do not let the nerves consume you and take a deep breath before starting.

Complexity:

One of the biggest mistakes in a wedding toast is to try to tell long winded or complicated stories. This is very difficult for even the best of orators so best to avoid. Tell simple short stories so you will not be put off if you do not get the reaction you were hoping for.
